Vintage Car Nested Tables with Real Rust Finish

Some faux effects are difficult to achieve well but others are pretty easy with accurate instructions and supplies. I originally wrote a post and created an instruction video (last on this page) using a rusted system by L’essentiel Botanics. This was an iron base that created actual rust. The company is no longer with us but I now use a superb product that creates a beautiful rich rust. It is called Real Rust by Artisan Paint Company. It is simple to use and lots of fun to watch transform the most mundane surfaces into something quite incredible. I have even rusted a cardboard box for a display prop.

Many of Artisan products were tested by yours truly before I decided to accept a any position to recommend their products. I absolutely LOVE them and the Real Rust is such a great finish to play with. I have since shared a tutorial in combination with a Mint Decoupage Paper instruction tutorial below. The first video is a quick before and after of one of the furniture items in the video.

Rusted Urn

The resurfaced urn in the video next was created to look like an antique rusted wrought iron urn. It looks and feels just like authentic REAL rust – because it is! It was damaged and cheap looking. I repaired the ceramic and transformed it by painting on the iron paint, follow up with the activator and water. The hardest part is patience; waiting for the amount of rust you want. The process for Artisan Real Rust is the same.

This is wonderful for bigger furniture projects, Industrial or rustic styling. Let loose on your imagination with a rust refurbishment that looks authentic!
