Wisdom of old, more precious than gold

For Illustration Fridays theme this week (old) I dedicated my sketch to the older and wiser generation with lovely old gent.

I wrote the words, Wisdom of old, more precious than gold! because I think we could learn a lot by listening to those who have lived life longer.

It has been some time since I have submitted to Illustration Friday. There have been times I have had the theme sketched out and forget, but alas, life is distracting when your head is always in a sketchbook! But I managed this week’s theme, old in the nick of time!

Illustration Friday: Search

Illustration Friday: Search

This week’s Illustration Friday’s theme is search. Here I have illustrated a search and rescue bug equipped for any emergency. Can you hear the trumpets? Duda-du-dah!

I wish I could work out how to upload the playback action file from it. Unfortunately I don’t have a Mac. Does anyone know if there is a workaround?

Illustration Friday – Lush

My trip to the hairdressers is never wasted time. Armed with my boredom-buster; my small sketchbook, I scanned the salon for opportunity for a sketch for this week’s Illustration Friday theme lush. The moment I sat down I spotted my concept; a lush head of hair on a manikin’s head. The apprentice was about to de-lush the woman’s head anchored onto the bench beside me. In my child-freindly version, I sketched a child’s onto the head. I must say, Jess did a nifty hairdo on the manikin at the end.

I colored the sketch today as I was catching up on all the latest election news (we go to the polls this weekend). The joy of sketching made it somewhat more palatable listening.

This week’s theme for Illustration Friday is rescue and I sketched out several different ideas. I decided on this one. It isn’t far from the weather we are having here, and I’m really looking forward to more sun in the coming months–brrrrrr!

Illustration Friday – Power

I actually got to colour this illustration today–a miracle! Usually Illustration Friday comes and goes with my ideas at sketch stage, and no post to show for it.

I have decided  to try posting the sketches even if I don’t get to colour them. This way you get to see the drawing at least, if you are anything like me; you’ll love peeking at the sketchbook anyway. I love browsing sketchbooks  and sketch journals full of raw ideas.

I did a few for the theme ‘power’ whilst watching TV last night. I had been sketching madly for my next book (Ultimate Superhero). I gave myself permission to have a random sketch session after everyone went to bed.

Illustration Friday: Hybrid, He’s got a head for real estate.

This is hybrid man cross street scene is scanned from one of my sketchbooks. I have to say that this drawing is a classic example of an unfinished idea (one of hundreds). I would have liked to illustrate this in colour but never got around to it.

Why this one? Well, I thought would have been great for an editorial illustration; real estate in particular, but like so many, unless commissioned, I don’t have time to finish everything I think of.

Correction: I was unable to upload data to IF this week. Their form doesn’t work.
