How to add gilding wax.

That extra special something for furniture finishes.

I created a quick and easy video to show how easy it is to add gilding wax. I demonstrated on a beautiful blue, ornate sideboard I have had sitting waiting for a decision on final touched.

This is the photo of the sideboard before painting.

I will update with a tutorial post showing the stages later. I learned a lot on this sideboard and discovered a wonderful new paint finish along the way.

This is a close up of the paint finish.

I’m usually pretty decisive when I approach each stage of the furniture finishes but on this, I just couldn’t decide if I should stop at the fresco finish or keep going.  My dilemma was do I add gilding wax or not.  the sideboard already boasted a wonderful European milky fresco finish. It was beautiful and unique all on its own. To add gilding wax may have been over-kill.

Eventually I caved in and submitted to the lure of gold gilding once again.  I don’t regret it either. I’m glad I added just a touch more elegance.

Take a look at the difference a little gold finger action makes!

When you add gilding wax to furniture you take its appearance to a whole never level but it is easy to go overboard. So gently, gently my friends!

Furniture makeovers with gilding wax have a stately elegance if carefully applied. It is worth the little extra effort and the very little cost of the wax.  In fact a little tub likely costs you under $1 per piece of furniture!

There are many waxes available. The main one I used is eco-safe and so I feel less anxious using it on my skin.  I have used several other brands that all woks well too.  I’m more safety conscious when it comes to my health these days.

You can find it with other wax option on this page.

Once I finish adding all the gold and inside the drawers of this sideboard I’ll post images as I list it.

The gold looks so beautiful with the soft blue.
