Studio Tour or Horror movie?

Well, it depends on your outlook!

Be warned! Your jaw could end up on the floor when you see what we have done to accommodate all my projects!

But hey – you gotta do what you gotta do right?

I don’t know about you, but I love to a bit of voyeurism into artists work spaces.  A studio tour is always intriguing to me.

Late last year it occurred to me that I had never filmed mine.  It is always transforming and often messy — so no wonder I kept it hidden.  And the hoard!!!! Oh my Lord!

December I decided to get out my camera and press the action button.  I figured, if it amused clients as they entered my home the first time, it will likely entertain you too.  So with a smirk, I captured the scene and shared what we have done (in desperation) to accommodate all my projects, office and businesses in a VERY limited space.

My full confession though–we have already moved a heap of furniture off-site.  A 40ft shipping container, in fact!  I literally had no room by mid-2017.  It became apparent around then, that the number of custom jobs flooding in was flooding my space more than I expected.  I was grateful but in a bit of a panic as to how to manage my working area efficiently.

Then people began offering me free furniture too!

I was also forced to resist buying projects to paint even more so.  In the process, I have become even more specific in what I take in. That is a good thing.

Studio Space Goals & De-cluttering

My goal is to clear up these spaces by the end of the year.  I’m planning this year carefully.

I’ve been on a purging spree for a few years. Most of my small items have been sorted.  The furniture takes up a lot of room though.  Any space I gained was quickly lost with new projects or works in progress.  Especially when working on several at once.

The tipping point came right on Christmas.  I found myself with finished items uncollected by clients away on holidays.  BIG mistake!  I’ll be clarifying pickup better this year.  Sadly, this affected production dramatically!  I was also beginning to record a lot of my processes and doing Facebook live videos.  This also meant accumulating studio equipment and spreading out with lights, microphones etc.

In part, I share all this to hold myself accountable.  Hopefully, as the year progresses, I may be able to show you a very different and more spacious studio tour.  But in any case, you’ll get a giggle out of seeing our solutions so far – or be horrified!  It isn’t your typical setup but it works better than it did before.

After my clients return from their looooooooong holidays, it will be better I’m sure.

Yikes – I hope!

Here it is…
